Is it finished? Most painters have a difficult time deciding when a painting is "finished".
Most of them keep going way too long, and overwork a painting. In my opinion,
they usually should have finished about 10 steps ago. I have done that, too.
I try to stop early enough to just give an impression...a feeling...and leave something
to the viewer's imagination. Plus I like to see a lot of sparkly white paper and crisp
pencil drawing when I'm looking at watercolors. When I reached this point in the wildflower study
above, my instinct told me to stop. Every time I started to go back and paint more,
something stopped me. So, in my opinion, it is finished. I love it just the way it is.
I'm going to frame it for my new kitchen.
I hope you all had a quiet, peaceful Thanksgiving.
